Maintains knowledge of the Division and accounting practices, rules, department policy and procedures and communicates to staff regarding same. Identifies and assists employees in attaining personal and professional goals and objectives. Handles employee complaints and resolves disputes among subordinates. Provides positive reinforcement to maintain good morale and productivity. Is responsible for establishing goals and objectives for staff that are consistent with the Finance Department and the organization. Stays apprised of staff's duties and workload. Assists in interviewing and hiring new personnel. Prepares performance evaluations for staff in a timely manner. ![]() Supports the City's performance review and development process and performance-based pay philosophy. Oversees day-to-day work, direct and indirect supervision of regular full time and part time Accounting Division staff as assigned and acts as a positive and motivating team leader of the Accounting Division. This position may be responsible for the daily operations and direct supervision of up to four professional and/or four technical/clerical positions as assigned. The position is also responsible for preparing various complex reconciliations and schedules for the City's annual audit and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report providing financial information and expert analysis to management and others when needed and other tasks, duties, and responsibilities of this position as assigned. The position is also responsible for being a team leader in analyzing and defining, from the accounting perspective, the financial business requirements and necessary accounting functions, business processes, and activities for financial systems development, implementation, and/or improvement of the City's computer-based financial software applications in an effort to align information technology solutions with end-user business requirements, best practices, internal controls, security, and other initiatives and special projects. This position is responsible for complex general ledger accounting and reconciliations associated with the City, grants, fixed assets, Lakewood Reinvestment Authority, Lakewood Public Building Authority, month-end accounting, year-end accounting, and compensation and benefits taxation. The position is responsible for full knowledge of and expertise in the City's accounting, payroll, and the related financial systems processes, procedures, and functions. This position works under the general direction of the Accounting Manager with decision-making responsibilities remaining with this position. It serves as the Assistant to Accounting Manager.
